Airline Maintenance Safety Specialist

Position Overview

The Maintenance Safety Specialist is responsible for reducing the risk of job-related incidents, accidents, and injuries by implementing, promoting, and auditing policies that support Ameriflight’s Safety Management System and ensuring that our Maintenance Department remains in compliance with safety policies, processes, and regulations.

This position is responsible for managing Ameriflight’s Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) for the mechanic group. Regular travel to other base locations is required.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Director of Safety in developing and administering safety training programs required by both federal regulation (FAA, DOT, TSA, EPA, and OSHA) and company policy.
  • Ensure the company is in compliance with applicable Federal OSHA standards as well as state approved plans.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance base managers in conducting safety facility inspections and safety assurance audits regarding OSHA, EPA, FAA, and Company compliance.
  • Assist in investigating maintenance related accidents and incidents to identify the root cause and to determine how they might be prevented.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate OSHA Injury Forms (300, and 300A) and logs (301) and file as appropriate (electronic or otherwise).
  • Create content for, promote, and lead monthly safety meetings for the mechanic group.
  • Create content for Quarterly “Lessons Learned” posters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • 2+ years of airline, or military, experience in maintenance preferably with Safety, Reliability, or Auditing.
  • Airframe & Powerplant License preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of SMS principals, FAA, DOT and OSHA Safety Regulations is preferred. 
  • Experience with injury prevention and behavior-based safety principles desired.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • An ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and an ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees are essential.
